UNAIR PUNYA CHEFF

UNAIR NEWS – “Kalau disamping menjalani perkuliahan, kalian mempunyai hobi atau passion (kesukaan terhadap sesuatu yang tidak bosan untuk dilakukan - Red), hendaknya juga ditekuni dan dimaksimalkan. Jadi jangan hanya njalanin yang akademik, misalnya kutu-buku, tetapi yang softskill juga perlu,” kata Risky Aprillian, mahasiswa Fakultas Kedokteran Hewan (FKH) angkatan 2011 yang kini sedang menempuh jenjang Professi Dokter Hewan.


Risky memberi masukan kepada sesama mahasiswa seperti itu, karena seperti sukses softskill yang ia lakukan hingga banyak orang sering menyapanya sebagai chef. Hal itu ia sampaikan usai melakukan demonstrasi masak dalam meramaikan Indonesia Research and Innovation Expo (IRIEx) 2016, di Airlangga Convention Center, Jumat (11/11).
Seperti diketahui, Risky tidak sia-sia harus mengambil cuti kulian untuk mengejar passion yang dirintis sejak SD: menjadi chef. Ia cuti kuliah untuk mengikuti Master Cheff Indonesia edisi IV dan berhasil lolos hingga masuk enam besar dari ratusan pesertanya. Setelah posisinya itu, Risky sering diundang untuk melakukan demo masak. Seperti kemarin ia mendemokan masakan khas Italia, satu diantaranya roti dengan tiramisu.
“Cuti kuliah yang diambil Risky bukan sembarangan cuti, memang waktu untuk menyelesaikan kuliahnya agak lama, tetapi tidak sia-sia. Dari cuti itu Risky mendapat banyak hal sangat positif dalam passion-nya. Dan satu hal lagi, laki-laki bisa masak itu keren banget,” komentar Dr. Rimayanti, drh., M.Kes., dosen FKH, Sie Acara IRIEx 2016.

Synergistic effect of the PDZ and p85β-binding domains of the NS1 protein on virulence of an Avian H5N1 influenza A virus

Abstract
The influenza A virus NS1 protein affects virulence through several mechanisms, including the host's innate immune response and various signaling pathways. Highly pathogenic avian influenza (HPAI) viruses of the H5N1 subtype continue to evolve through reassortment and mutations. Our recent phylogenetic analysis identified a group of HPAI H5N1 viruses with two characteristic mutations in NS1: the avian virus-type PDZ domain-binding motif ESEV (which affects virulence) was replaced with ESKV, and NS1-138F (which is highly conserved among all influenza A viruses and may affect the activation of the phosphatidylinositol 3-kinase [PI3K]/Akt signaling pathway) was replaced with NS1-138Y. Here, we show that an HPAI H5N1 virus (A/duck/ Hunan/69/2004) encoding NS1-ESKV and NS1-138Y was confined to the respiratory tract of infected mice, whereas a mutant encoding NS1-ESEV and NS1-138F caused systemic infection and killed mice more efficiently. Mutation of either one of these sites had small effects on virulence. In addition, we found that the amino acid at NS1-138 affected not only the induction of the PI3K/Akt pathway but also the interaction of NS1 with cellular PDZ domain proteins. Similarly, the mutation in the PDZ domain-binding motif of NS1 altered its binding to cellular PDZ domain proteins and affected Akt phosphorylation. These findings suggest a functional interplay between the mutations at NS1-138 and NS1-229 that results in a synergistic effect on influenza virulence. © 2013, American Society for Microbiology.

Clinical safety and effectiveness of biphasic insulin aspart 30 in type 2 diabetes patients switched from biphasic human insulin 30: Results from the Indonesian cohort of the A1chieve study

Abstract
Aim: To evaluate the safety and effectiveness of biphasic insulin aspart 30 (BIAsp 30) in Indonesian type 2 diabetes patients switched from biphasic human insulin 30 (BHI 30) as a sub-analysis of the A1chieve study. Methods: Clinical safety and effectiveness over 24 weeks was evaluated in Indonesian patients who switched from BHI 30 to BIAsp 30 at the discretion of their physician. Results: A total of 244 patients with mean age ± SD 55.6±9.5 years, BMI 24.6±3.8kg/m2, and mean diabetes duration 7.8±5.7 years were included. The mean pre-study BHI 30 dose was 0.56±0.25 IU/kg and the baseline BIAsp 30 dose was 0.60±0.26U/kg titrated up to 0.65±0.25 U/kg by Week 24. No serious adverse drug reactions were reported throughout the study. Overall hypoglycaemia decreased from 2.18 to 0.06 events/patient-year with a significant decrease in the proportion of patients affected (p < 0.0001). No nocturnal or major hypoglycaemia was reported at Week 24. HbA1c improved from 8.8±1.2% at baseline to 7.3±0.8% at Week 24. A total of 45 patients achieved HbA1c <7.0% as compared to 5 patients with HbA1c <7.0% at baseline. FPG and PPPG improved significantly after 24 weeks (p < 0.001). Quality of life was positively impacted (change in visual analogue scores, 3.0±11.6 points, p < 0.001). Conclusion: Switching from BHI 30 to BIAsp 30 in this Indonesian cohort was well-tolerated and improved glycaemic control with a decreased risk of hypoglycaemia. © 2013 Elsevier Ireland Ltd.

SEM-EDX analysis of laser surface alloying on aluminum

Abstract
Microstructure and chemical composition changes on the alloyed aluminum surface were investigated using SEM-EDX analysis. A Q-switched Nd:YAg laser was focused to induce breakdown and plasma formation. The high plasma temperature and the shock wave pressure were responsible for speeding up the laser surface alloying process. The rapid heat and cooling process introduced a non-equilibrium condition causing changes in the microstructure as well as the chemical composition of the alloyed aluminum surface. The remelted layer and molten pools were realized after the aluminum received a power density greater than 5 x 108 Wcm-2. The chemical composition change confirms that the convection process had taken place during the alloying process. © 2013 Published by ITB Journal Publisher.

Aripiprazole

Abstract
Aripiprazole is an atypical antipsychotic drug which belongs to the benzisoxazole derivatives. Aripiprazole is available in many salts and polymorphs forms. X-ray diffraction, IR spectroscopy, and DSC could be used for differentiating the polymorphs of aripiprazole. Some instrumental methods of analysis such as UV spectrophotometer, HPTLC, HPLC, and CE can be applied for analyzing aripiprazole and its impurities. Chromatography methods that have an MS/MS detector is the method of choice for analyzing aripiprazole and its metabolites. Bioavailability studies of the polymorphs of aripiprazole and their pharmaceutical preparations are very important to optimize the formulations of the dosage forms. © 2013 Elsevier Inc..
